How to Start a 21st Century American Revolution

These are the opening paragraphs of the Declaration of Independence and those words ring just as true today as they did in 1776.  Back then, however, the nation was pushed to war as the only solution to stop the abuse of power by King George III of England.

Today, we are blessed with the Constitution, which offers “We the People” a peaceful, yet powerful, solution to restore the freedoms that have been taken from us by an out-of-control Federal government.  That solution is your vote!

In the 21st Century American Revolution, it is not enough to just “vote them all out of office”.  We must recruit and vote FOR true citizen representatives who will go to Washington, D.C. and vote FOR legislation that will stop this long-standing abuse of power by the career politicians, restore our freedoms, and return the United States to the model of freedom and prosperity that the Founding Fathers envisioned.

I wrote the Economic Freedom Act of 2010 to do just that, but, like any other plan, if it sits on a shelf and gathers dust, it will accomplish nothing.

So, on February 3rd, I sent a letter, via Certified Mail, to President Obama.   Attached to that letter was a copy of the Act, with Exhibits A and B attached.

After more than a year and a half of researching, writing, and talking about the Act to thousands of Americans across the country, it was a wonderfully rewarding feeling to finally set it free.

Having accomplished that part of the mission, it was now time to turn my attention to Congress.

With my own funds, and the financial contributions of a few loyal supporters, I had more than 500 copies of the 12-page Act printed, along with a 3-page transmittal letter addressed to every member of the House of Representatives and the Senate. All-in-all, there were more than 7,500 pages printed. Add to that the cost of more than 500 envelopes + postage and you can see that it didn’t take long to spend more than $2,000 on this mailing.

In my view, this was history in the making, so, I personally signed each letter, putting on rubber gloves to prevent my body oils from spoiling the pristine letters.

After I had signed 200 or so letters, I called a couple of long-time friends and supporters over to begin stuffing each envelope with a transmittal letter and a copy of the Act.

Hours later, we finished stuffing more than 500 envelopes.

The last step was to add stamps and load the envelopes into my car to be taken to the post office.  On February 8th, the Economic Freedom Act was on its way to Congress.

With that mailing project complete, it was time to begin the media blitz.

Since I work full time during the day, I spent the next few evenings creating a database of more the 450 media addresses for the next mailing.  This database included major newspapers, television stations and radio stations around the country.

Once the database was finished, I wrote a one page press release and printed it on American Citizen Party letterhead, using the mail-merge function in MS-Word to personalize each press release with a name and address.  I also used mail merge to print matching envelopes.

Through the weekend and over the next few evenings, I stuffed each press release into its respective envelope.

Add the postage and, finally, the media mailing project was finished and ready to go.

Like the letters to Congress, I carefully placed the press releases in my car and delivered them to the post office on February 25th.

As demonstrated by the Founding Fathers in 1776, and the efforts put forth here in 2010, revolutions don’t just happen on their own.

It takes one person with a clear vision of freedom, and plan to restore it, to light the spark.

It takes a few others to listen to the message, believe in the plan, and make a commitment to do their part to bring it about, to fan the flames.
